Ragtime in New Rochelle
May 1st through May 30th
New Rochelle will be alive with syncopated rhythms in May as Ragtime comes to the Queen City. In conjunction with Theatre Works’ production of Ragtime, the Museum of Arts & Culture will mount a special exhibit, Ragtime in New Rochelle, which will run all month long. The exhibit will include personal items on loan from the author, E.L. Doctorow. Programming will include a lecture by E.L. Doctorow, on Friday, May 16th at 7:30 pm in the Linda Kelly Theatre at New Rochelle High School, as well as a screening of the film version of Ragtime on Monday, May 12th at 7:30 pm.
In addition, New Rochelle’s “One City, One Book” committee has selected Ragtime as its spring read, with special programming to include a concert of ragtime music at the New Rochelle Public Library, a lecture by City Historian Barbara Davis, and book discussion groups meeting at sites around the city throughout the month of May – all of which means the entire community will be experiencing Ragtime fever.
Ragtime in New Rochelle is made possible with support from The City of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Council on the Arts, with assistance from The New Rochelle Public Library.
